Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder can be debilitating but it doesn't have to be.

Bipolar Disorder is a complex mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). During manic episodes, individuals may feel elated, energetic, or irritable, often with a decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts, impulsivity, and increased risk-taking behaviors. These episodes can be intense and disruptive, leading to poor decision-making and strained relationships. On the other end of the spectrum, depressive episodes are marked by profound sadness, loss of interest in activities, fatigue, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, and thoughts of death or suicide.

There are several types of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar I involves manic episodes that last at least 7 days or are severe enough to require immediate medical care. Bipolar II features depressive episodes alternating with hypomanic episodes, which are less severe than full mania but still significantly impact daily functioning. Cyclothymic Disorder is a milder form of bipolar disorder, with episodes of hypomania and mild depression that persist for at least 2 years.
